| Name: | Danny Fenton/Phantom (OU) |
|---|
Character: Danny Fenton/Phantom
Series/Fandom: Danny Phantom
Original or Alternate: Original
Age: 14
Gender: Male
Species: Human-ghost hybrid
Sexuality: Straight, and not really mature enough yet to have considered bending anyhow.
Appearance:
Danny's appearance changes, depending on whether he is in ghost mode (Danny Phantom,) or his human self (Danny Fenton.)
Danny Fenton has black hair, short in the back but with bangs growing a little far over his eyes in the front. His eyes are blue, with the exception of glowing green if he's extremely angry or agitated. Danny's build is very slight and his limbs are thin and gangly; in fact, even though he's 14 and has already started growing chest hairs, he's been judged to his indignance as "prepubescent" at a spare glance. Danny Fenton is also short, having not hit major growth spurts yet, but his voice is at least reasonably deep for a teenager even if he isn't a walking pile of macho. He usually wears a white t-shirt with a red oval at the center and jeans with tennis shoes, although he's dressed up before for special occasions like dances or parties. Although Danny looks scrawny at first appearances, his time fighting ghosts has built up some muscle, mostly visible around his chest.
Danny Phantom has generally the same body build as Fenton, but his eyes are green, his hair is white, and he emits a white supernatural glow at all times. Danny's uniform is a tightly fit black hazmat bodysuit with white gloves, white boots, a white belt, a white collar and his symbol (a stylized D with a P fit inside) on the chest. His muscles are a little more obvious in this outfit, since it fits more tightly. As a ghost, his form has more flexibility as well; flying or floating often results in his legs dissolving together into a wispy ghostly 'tail,' and he's also shown the ability to stretch or distort his ghost body in other ways to avoid attack.
Personality:
Danny is basically a good kid at heart, and has an inquisitive mindset. His life's dream is to be an astronaut, and his curiosity is what first sent him into the ghost portal and gave him his powers. With those powers, and with a hearty childhood dose of comic books and superhero movies and ideals, he found himself with a new purpose in life as a hero. Danny's heroic ideals are sometimes a bit naive, but even though he started just defending humans against dangerous ghosts, when the situation arose he fought beside ghosts against other, worse ghosts and even to defend the Ghost Zone from humans. Even if he complains sometimes about the stresses of staying up all night hunting down ghosts, or of having to deal with ghostly love triangles or repeated sinister plots to take over the world, Danny feels driven to protect others even when he knows it may cost his life.
Despite this noble side, Danny does tend to complain, being a teenage boy with a few more problems than the average pass through puberty. Frustrations with ghost hunting and how it takes over his life, lowering his grades and damaging the little social life he has at school, have led him to pass the duties on somehow a few times (such as dividing himself into two, a 'superhero' Danny and a 'fun' human Danny) or to use his powers less than wisely. Danny is a pretty unpopular kid, thanks to having parents who are well-known for being ghost hunting lunatics, not to mention Danny Fenton's complete lack of skill at sports and early clumsiness thanks to misfires in his developing powers (like accidentally turning his pants intangible so they fall to his ankles.) He's the target of bullies, and at times he's used his powers to try to get back at them with pranks that are sometimes physically harmful. This less heroic side is not something Danny's proud of, and it's taken time for him to recognize that he is more powerful than the people who bully him, even if they don't know it, and hurting them with his powers is a dangerous road to start down.
A less serious way Danny deals with the stress of being a teenage superhero is sarcasm. A witty quip or dry observation about the insanity that tends to surround him as a ghost fighter is usually part of any battle, and it's a bad sign if Danny isn't at least trying to make light of the situation. He does tend to underestimate the seriousness of things sometimes as a downside of this, and has on occasions made comments that he regretted as they just made his enemy angrier. Danny Fenton is a little less swift with the jokes than Phantom, perhaps because he has less power to back it up, but even as a human he still lets out wry observations from time to time.
Danny's quick wit in a pinch is balanced by the fact that he's rather awkward in formal or 'popular' social situations. Invited to a popular kid's party, or embarrassed by his parents, or dropping his pants by accident, Danny shows the gawky teen at heart as he stumbles through these situations with embarrassment. Girls are also a problem, as he can't confess his interest to the girls he likes, and even when things seem to be working out he'll hit a snag or some ghost will show up to ruin everything.
Abilities/Strengths:
Powers: Danny has 'ghost powers,' the simplest of which are weaker but present even in human form. These include flying, turning intangible, turning invisible, sending out ectoplasmic energy blasts, putting up ectoplasmic shields, possessing others, letting out a powerful Ghostly Wail which can damage a large area but exhausts Danny to use, altering or stretching his body in ghost form, duplicating himself into as many as 4 identical Dannies (although any one taking damage will result in the duplicate vanishing into the 'prime' Danny,) and using a ghostly chill to freeze things.
As a person, Danny's greatest strength is probably his love of his friends and family, and his wish to protect them. (Though this is also a weakness in a way, discussed below.) In times when they're in danger, he's able to draw upon a greater amount of strength than if he's just fighting for himself or fighting some random ghost, and even when knocked down or seemingly facing impossible odds Danny refuses to give up when he knows the people he cares about are counting on him. And, thanks to his experiences, Danny is a little gustier than the average fourteen year old boy, though he has to hide that under his secret identity as Fenton and sometimes fakes screaming and running so he can go someplace to change into Phantom and come back to save the day.
His flexibility as a hero has grown with time, and Danny’s become more accepting of other types of people and non-people/ghosts, particularly friendlier ones who share Danny’s ideals of heroism or who just want to be left alone in peace. Rather than seeing all ghosts as evil, or all humans as good, or even hating the bullies he encounters at school, Danny’s learned to work and live alongside many different sorts when the time calls for it.
Danny also knows a lot about NASA and the space program, since that's his life dream.
Weaknesses:
Naturally, anything designed to hurt ghosts or specters is very harmful to Danny. Even if he isn't in ghost form, he's been shown to be shocked or injured by anti-ghost devices, not to mention setting off ghost sensors as a human.
Danny's urge to protect others can be a weakness, not just because he puts himself in danger but because sometimes he fails and this is very difficult for him to take. In an alternate timeline, when his family and friends die because of an accident he failed to prevent, he goes insane. Within the mainstream timeline, he tends to become disheartened easily and can't stand seeing others hurt because of fights he feels he should have handled. When his parents are accused of harboring a ghostly refugee and arrested due to his ghost half, Danny removes his powers for a while and tries to live as a normal teen, convinced that this is better and safer in the long run for his family and friends. (Fortunately, he comes to his senses and manages to get his powers back.)
Danny is a teenager and can be really petty. Ghost powers can make for some very complicated pranks, although Danny sort of outdoes himself when he manages to get his archenemy's house smashed and then turns a wall intangible so the world sees the man in the shower on the evening news. Most of his pranks are less harmful, though, and he does try to restrain himself. His fights with his friends also tend to be over petty little arguments, and he usually regrets them as soon as they've happened.
When he loses, he gets despondent, but when he wins he gets cocky. Danny has a bad habit of underestimating others, and Tucker and Sam have also complained of not being appreciated enough sometimes in their roles as sidekicks. Usually when Danny's getting a swelled head, it takes a good butt kicking or two for him to come back down to size again, which is a lot easier when Danny doesn't take a fight seriously enough in the first place.
Notable Possessions:
Danny tends to carry anti-ghost gear around with him just in case, the most notable being the Fenton Thermos, which is a thermos that sucks in ghosts. ... it also could probably work as a bludgeon if he swung it at somebody or something, or maybe he could put soup or a hot drink in it too.
History:
Danny Fenton was raised by two normal human parents... who happened to be ghost hunters and inventors. He has an older sister and two best friends, Tucker and Sam (short for Samantha). One day his parents tried to perfect an old experiment, a portal into the Ghost Zone (an experiment they had tried and failed at 20 years earlier, accidentally and unknowingly creating Danny's to-be arch nemesis Vlad Plasmius in the process) but his parents couldn't get it to work. When Danny walked inside after his parents left and accidentally pressed a button, however, his body was merged with the energy of the portal and he became a half-ghost. At first, adjusting to his powers was extremely difficult, as even in human form he had a bad habit of accidental invisibility or intangibility, and he was now setting off every anti-ghost invention his parents came up with. His friends Sam and Tucker tried to help him cover his new strange status, but when ghostly monsters and villains started to pass through the portal to the human world, Danny found a purpose behind his accident and became the hero Danny Phantom.
Despite his heroic wishes, he isn't always seen as heroic, especially by his parents and other ghost hunters who believe all ghosts are inherently evil and must be captured and destroyed or experimented upon. It doesn't help that on occasions, Danny himself succumbs to weaker urges and uses his powers for at least petty if not evil. Another major changing point for Danny was meeting Vlad Masters/Plasmius, the victim of the earlier portal experiment accident and a bitter, vicious man who uses his ghost powers for his own gain and as a weapon against his enemies. Plasmius becomes the example to Danny of what not to do, and what he can become if he lets vindictiveness or selfishness decide how he uses his special abilities. Vlad is obsessed with Danny's mother, and wishes to kill Danny's father and adopt Danny and his older sister Jazz, but between treating the younger half-ghost as a potential son or pupil Vlad also frequently fights Danny or challenges him in various ways, usually forcing Danny to use emotional tactics or tricks to win against Vlad since Vlad vastly overpowers Danny. Eventually, Vlad gives up on Danny as a son and instead tries to clone him--the effort fails, but does produce a younger female 'clone' who goes by Danielle and whom Danny treats as a sort of cousin.
Worse than Vlad, thanks to a time controlling ghost named Clockwork Danny has learned of an alternate future where his family and friends are killed in an accident, and in rage and grief his ghost half overshadows Vlad's and destroys most of the planet, killing Danny's own human half as well. After managing to overcome his alternate self and stop that future from happening, Danny swore never to become a monster like that.
As time passed and Danny's career as a hero went on, his popularity with the general public (if not with ghost hunters) improved, and he became something of a celebrity in his hometown. The culmination of this, as well as the end of the series, comes when an asteroid threatens the Earth. Danny uses his powers, along with the combined powers and efforts of both the Ghost Zone and the human world, to make the Earth itself intangible so that the asteroid passes harmlessly by. After this, statues are erected around the world in Danny's honor, and Danny finally tells his parents and the world as a whole his secret identity. His parents still love and accept him as their son, despite their hatred of ghosts, and Danny also begins a relationship with Sam.
I'm taking Danny from right before the last episode, so he has not revealed his ghostly identity to the world and has not started his relationship with Sam yet, since these are major character-changing events.
